If you've been trying to sell a home in Akron, Ohio, you know that it's tough right now. The recession and sub prime mortgage crisis has dropped home values all over the nation, placing the advantage squarely on the shoulders of the buyers, who may be more likely to choose Red Hook real estate than your Akron home. So how can you make it more likely that your home will sell? You make it more appealing than the others that are for sale. Don't tell your neighbors, but we've got a few tips that should help.

Don't Overprice

When buyers have other options within a few blocks of each other, the odds are slim to none that they'll choose yours, especially if you're listing the property for more than it is worth. Don't assume that buyers will take it as a sign that you're open to negotiation. They're more likely to think you're trying to gouge them so you can afford a better Toronto condo when you move and avoid your listing altogether. The best price is an accurate one, so hire a professional appraiser to tell you what that is.

De Clutter

You're trying to sell your home not show off what a great life you've had in it. Your mementos - the children's drawings on the walls, the piles of DVDs on the living room shelves, the stacks of extra chairs in the dining room - all impede a buyer's ability to see themselves living in the house. Remember when you moved last time, the Scarborough real estate agent told you to put most of your things in storage while she was showing the home? Well it's time to do so again, whether an Akron real estate agent is telling you to or not.

Stage

Once all your old things have been banished to the dark recesses of the local bulk storage facility, it's time to turn your house into an appealing but open space. It goes without saying, of course, that you should fix any issues with the house (holes in walls, plumbing leaks, etc). Then you should get a home decor magazine and replicate the Yorkville condos style you see in the photos: simple, clean, fresh, and inviting. That means minimal furniture, some fresh flowers, and cookies baking in the oven.

Get the Word Out

The internet is a great source for home selling help, but only if you need something simple like a neighborhood map or a mortgage calculator. Toronto's real estate blogs can't help you get the word out about your house, though. For that you need advertising: print, TV, radio, and internet. If you can't handle it on your own, that's when you need to hire a realtor.
